SAICBA-Q member Hon. Soma S. Syed became the first Bangladeshi-American woman in the country elected to serve at the state trial level. Her induction was well-attended by many community members, district leaders, and local residents.
The event kicked off with a moving rendition of the Bangladesh national anthem. Among the attendees and guest speakers were Queens County Civil Court Judge Sally E. Unger (Ret.), New York State Senator John C. Liu, Queens Borough President Donovan J. Richards Jr., New York City Comptroller Mark Levine, Bangladeshi Ambassador to Mexico Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey, Jamaica Muslim Center Imam Shamsi Ali, and various presidents of bar associations. Chief Judge of the State of New York Rowan D. Wilson performed the swearing-in ceremony.
